Movie Night

Friday nights are my "Trayde" night. What is Trayde you ask? Just like "Kimyay" and "Brangelina", only better. It's Katrina and Jayde. Trayde!

So anyway, pretty much every Friday night for the past few years (minus a few months in the middle) the beautiful Katrina and I have spent Friday nights together, being #thetwobestfriendsthatanyonecouldeverhave.

We sometimes go out, but most of the time, we hang out at her house and be awesome. We might cook dinner, tonight was home made carbonara, we might watch a movie, tonight is Sinister, and sometimes we just sit around and talk shit.

Tonight, as mentioned above, we made dinner and are about to watch a movie.

You might have noticed by now, this post has no real point, other than to tell everyone how awesome we are.

Style Of An Era Long Past

Hello my gorgeous guys and gals!

Time for a quick update on my life recently.

My friend Dan, is a model, and she and I are working on some looks for a shoot we're doing in July. We've been asked to choose a fashion decade and theme our styling on it.

Dan embodies the look of the classic Pin Up, and it's our favourite to do, so it was the clear winner. Just wanted to share what we've been working on. At the moment it's just hair, but next week will be make up.

We tried a few different styles. Starting mainly with "Kitten Ears", then adding bits and pieces. We were looking for a basic style that was easy and quick to do, with big results.

After we'd decided on the base style, we simply changed the accessory, or pinned Dan's fringe, or pulled her hair at the back up.

I'm pretty happy with what we've decided on, because it makes my life, as her stylist, SO MUCH EASIER.

Now when I say stylist, keep in mind I just do this for fun. I'm not qualified in anything. I've never been to a class, or had any training.

To the left, you can see a basic updo, with Dan's hair tied up inside the bandanna. This style was made iconic by the "working ladies" sign of the 1950's. We've left the fringe down to soften the look a little.

Here we can see the main style of the whole look. Kitten ears, pinned and curled fringe, curled hair at the back.

Because Dan's hair is so thick, it can take a while to curl, and it has a habit of 'dropping'.
So lots of hairspray is needed here!

Another cute bandanna style. This time I decided to use a white bandanna, to contrast with Dan's dark brown hair. I left the kitten ears in, fluffed the curls at the back a little, and folded the bandanna into a working headband style.

I actually wear my hair like this a fair bit, because it's a nice way to leave my hair down, but keep it off my face. I have a Betty Bangs style fringe, so I'll either pull it back and pin it under the bandanna, or I'll blow wave it out.

Okay, so this isn't the prettiest face Dan's pulling, but mainly look at the hair! I've taken the Kitten Ears out, brushed the fringe into the rest of the hair. Because I had hairsprayed the kitten ears, there is a bit of texture in that section of hair, I back combed a little, and smoothed over the top strands. Then I've softly pulled it all back, and slipped the headband on.

It's a very cute style to try yourselves. Simply curl all of your hair, mainly the ends, then brush the top sections, pull it all back, and adorn with your choice of headband

Speaking of make up, I went a little crazy on Tuesday night and spent over $100 at BH cosmetics.... I am so in love with their eyebrow pencils, concealer pallet, blush pallet....actually, pretty much everything! They're having a sale at the moment, so I highly suggest you go and see what it's all about.

If you guys are interested in the Pin Up look, here's a quick tutorial from Cherry Doll Face for Victory Rolls. It's super easy, and if at first you don't succeed, try, try again!

Here is the link to BH Cosmetics site, there shipping can be a little excessive because we've in Australia. But really, for the quality you're getting a good deal.

There we have it my lovelies!

My Obsession

Look, I'm going to be honest here guys and gals. I'm not the healthiest person in the world.

This is made more evident by my obsession with Kit Kats. Yes, the smooth milk chocolate covered wafers. I love them. They are my life source.

If you ever want to buy me a present. Kit Kats. Lots of them.

I was lying in bed tonight, having massive chocolate cravings, when I decided I would go to Coles and buy a Kit Kat. Yes, you read that right, just one. It didn't work though. The minute I saw those cherry red wrappers, glinting in the fluorescent lighting, I had to have as many as I could fit in my fat little hands.

Which is 12 in case you're wondering.

So, now I'm home, back in bed, with my strawberry milk, and 4 Kit Kats (I have to take some to work as well!).

Night ya'll

Update: Archery

So, I've been going to archery for a couple of months now, and I've just received my Novice 190. Which means I only have 6 gradings to go until I get my Cadet certificate.

Recently tried a compound bow. And although it 's the lazy way of doing things, it's a lot better for my shoulder, so I did my scoring with it today.

Turns out.. I'M ROBIN HOOD!

I managed to shoot two arrows perfectly straight...one into the back of the other! I broke them hahahaha, check it! The arrow on the very right, split the knock of the arrow on the very left!

Of course my faithful comrades were shooting with compounds as well, so I thought it was only fair that they get their moment of glory. So here is a photo of each of them :P
*Justin*

*Matt*

I'm so excited to finish my Novice grading and move up to Cadet!

Story Time

I work full time as a Care Coordinator. My job entails organising carers to go and see clients, to assist them with things like shopping, personal care & respite. I work on the phone, for almost 7 hours straight, 5 days a week.

Every day, I speak with clients, case managers, and carers.
I love speaking with clients the most, because they have the most amazing stories.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting one of my clients. For privacy sake, we'll call her Mary.

Mary is full of amazing stories, and hilarious inappropriate jokes. I had the best end to an afternoon of work, I could have possibly asked for.

Mary was telling me how she believes people shouldn't be put on a breathing machine, and when it's their time to go, just let them go.
Easier said than done I'm sure.
Mary told me a story about her mother:

"My mother suffered 3 massive strokes in a row, and was in hospital. Because I was living in Melbourne, and the rest of my family, dad and brother, was in Tasmania, I had to fly over. My dad and brother were in the hospital with mum, and the doctor wanted to know what our family's wishes were. Dad told the doctor to wait for me. I was very close with mum you see.
I missed the Friday night flight, so caught the first flight over on Saturday morning. When I arrived, I spent some time with mum, before the doctor pulled me away to talk to me. The first thing I said to him was 'Don't even think about putting my mother on a breathing machine. Because if you do, I will go in there and turn it off'. The doctor looked at me and smiled and said 'I was hoping you'd say that'.
When we were all standing around talking, I blurted out '3am Monday morning'. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy. The doctor asked me what I was talking about, and I said to him 'Mum will pass at 3am Monday morning.'
At 3:10am on Monday morning, my brother received a call, to say mum had passed."

I looked at her with disbelief. Who was this lady? A magician?

We continued on our afternoon, chatting about this and that. It was lovely.

Meeting people like Mary, makes me realise why I love my job!

Etsy

So I didn't know what Etsy was until about a year ago, and since then I've been looking almost every night at the amazing things people make and sell.

I never thought I could be one of these brave people that are so crafty, and put their beautiful items up for the world to see and buy. Until tonight.

Tonight I decided to take the plunge and create my own shop. I dabbled with a few different names, and finally decided on CutThroatKitty.

A little morbid I know, but I think it suits me and my style to a T.

I want to craft right now! (it's 11:15pm) I already have ideas on a few more things I want to make, like hair bows, headbands, bags, coin purses etc.

So, come along, join the fun, and shop till your heart is content!

Product Review: Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick #20

Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish #20

When Kate Moss brought out her first collection of lipsticks, I was a little hesitant to try them, and so I missed out. But not this time! Kate Moss has released a new range through Rimmel, Lasting Finish, and I bought them!

There are 11 different shades (that I know of), and I current have 2 in my possession. I've only worn one so far, #20.

#20 is a beautiful vibrant fuchsia pink, it goes on a lot brighter than you'd think. It glides on like silk and feels so glamorous on my lips. The packaging is elegant and stylish, with a lovely matt finish, and Kate's name with a cute little love heart.

I simply adore the colour!
Unfortunately, that's about all I like. The tube isn't sealed, so anyone can open it before you buy it, and you'd never know. It doesn't last nearly as long as I thought it would, even with lip liner (I tried with and without).
Even though it goes on smooth, after a little while it becomes dry and has an unpleasant feel on my lips. I've tried it with clear gloss, and without, and it still doesn't last, nor does it feel/taste any better.

I was really disappointed with this product. All of the hype had me so excited! Only other upside was the price, about $12-$15.

Scoring is as follows:

Price: 9/10
Colour: 10/10
Texture: 6/10
Taste: 6/10
Wear: 5/10

Sorry for the let down ladies and gents!

Sing Me A Song, It Won't Take Long

Karaoke.

To some it brings joy, to others it brings terror.

Japanese kara 空 "empty" and ōkesutora オーケストラ "orchestra".
Karaoke has been around for nearly as long as recording itself. It's a form of interactive entertainment where average people, like you and me, sing along with recorded music using a microphone. The music is can be whatever the singer feels like and is typically a well-known pop song. Lyrics are generally displayed on a video screen.

At my local pub, The Irish, they have karaoke every Wednesday night. My friends and I usually head over there for dinner and a couple of drinks, then enjoy the night of terrible and terrific local singers. None of us really get up there, unless strongly co erst by others. This was my dilemma last night.

My delightfully best friend Katrina, had requested I serenade her, with Soft Cell - Tainted Love.

So I did.

Standing on stage, my belly filled with liquid courage, the bright lights shining in my eyes, and the throbbing music surrounding me. I could just make out the crowds faces, all of them looking at me with high expectations. When the intro started, I could feel my hands go rigid, my butterfly's stopped flapping their jittery wings. "Sometimes I feel I've got to, Run away,  I've got to, Get away...."

By the end of the first verse, I was living large! Singing with all my heart, and loving every moment.

When the outro had finished, and the music became quiet, the applause began. And kept going. I'd like to say there is no bigger rush, than putting yourself out there and trying something scary.

I'm already practising for my song next week, even though its 6 days away.

Product Review: L'Oreal Infalliable Lipstick 312 Ravishing Red

If you've been reading, by now you'll know that I love lipsticks, and I mean love them. I have a small collection, of over 50 different shades. They range from K-Mart brand BYS, to L'Oreal & Revlon. I love them all. I have everything from pinks and reds, to purples, browns and oranges.

When I realised I had so many, I decided to do The Lipstick Diaries. A photo of each of my amazing lipsticks. But I've thought of something even better, a product review!

So each week (or so), I'll be doing a review on a lipstick. Today is L'Oreal Infallible in 312 Ravishing Red.

L'Oreal Infallible in 312 Ravishing Red.

I bought this at K-Mart a couple of months ago for about $15. It's a brilliant Goldilocks red, not to bright, and not to dark, just right!

According to L'Oreal, it's designed to last for 10hrs. I wore mine to work, drank 3 cups of coffee, and ate my lunch, and it was still there! A little worn, but after a light touch up, all was right in the world.

Because it is the long last formula, it feels a little dry once it's set. It didn't make my lips look dry or flakey though, which was a bonus. But for all you lovelies out there who like a glossy lip, wearing a clear or lightly red tinted lip gloss works well. Obviously though, with the gloss, the intense colour doesn't last as long. It has almost a matt finish, but a slight shimmer at the same time.

When I wear lipstick, I like to make sure I wear a lip liner as well, to minimise colour bleeding, with 312 I had absolutely no bleed! It has a creamy texture when applying it, and no discernible "lipsticky" taste.

Scoring is as follows:

Price: 8/10
Colour: 10/10
Texture: 9/10
Taste: 8/10
Wear: 7/10

An all around winner in my books, 8/10.

Because red is such a classic colour, I like to team mine with a simple face, light blush, luscious thick black mascara and black winged liner.

Coming Back To Reality

Coming home after a weekend away is always a sad venture. As you see the glorious bushland slowly disappear and become houses and shops, you realise that you're heading back to civilisation.

The long weekend just gone, Katrina, Justin and I went to my family's property on the 90 Mile Beach, past Rosedale.

It was a glorious 3 days and 3 nights, filled with reading, roasting marshmallows, and lazing on the beach.
I love being able to get away from all the hustle and bustle of modern life, and just spending quiet time with my friends.

I'm already planning the next trip down there, and am counting down the days! I love my family's property and have started organising a few things to bring down there. Keep in mind that we don't have mains power, or water, or gas.

I'll take more photos next time, so I can share them with you.

Until next time...

Organisation Is The Key!

The key to what, I don't know, but it definitely makes life easier.

For the last couple of days I've been planning a weekend away with Justin and my two best friends Matt and Katrina.
Matt, who has the most ridiculous social life, had no idea what he was meant to be doing this weekend. I then stupidly volunteered to make him a calendar to help him work out what he had planned. I thought about it constantly for over an hour, going over all of the different styles that could work. I decided to made one from scratch, with A2 poster paper.

* 2 months of the amazing new calendar I made for Matt*
I thoroughly enjoy being organised. My desk may look terrible, but everything has it's place, and my social life is no different. When I was entering things into my diary, I would use code and icons. For example, below you can see my entry for Spud Fest, there is a little music note at the top, which signals it's a gig. I also use a little party hat, to signal a party, an old school movie reel for a movie etc etc. It was working, until I became lazy and couldn't be bothered drawing everything in.

*Please excuse my terrible handwriting!*

My books, in all three of my bookcases, are grouped according to genre, then alphabetically by author. If there is a series of books, then they're organised differently. I will store them in the order they were released. It infuriates me when they have 4 or 5 books in one size/style and then release one or two in a different size! It ruins the whole look of my bookcase!
It took me a while to get it right, and every now and then, I go through all three cases and redo them. Every time I buy new books, they are added to their own sections.

So, my advice for being organised?
  1. Pick your poison: I tried having a diary that a kept with me at all times, but I found I kept leaving it everywhere that I wasn't! Now I use my phone calendar (Samsung Galaxy S3, S Planner) and my big wall calendar at home. Try a few different ways, and pick what suits you best.
  2. Erase away: I write everything in pencil first. Having a version of your calendar that can be erased can be a life saver. No more throwing out bits of paper because you've written in pen and scribbled it out. I do it that way, because then I know when I'm definitely booked in (I've already bought tickets, sent my RSVP) and when I still need to confirm/decide. Pencil vs Pen.
  3. Add it now: As soon as you know you need to do something, or have been invited somewhere, write it in your diary/calendar now! There's nothing worse than promising someone you'll be somewhere, then 2 months later getting an upset call or text because you forgot all about it!
  4. Colours: Try colour coding. Work in blue, parties in red, family events in green etc. It gives you a good idea of what you've got planned, without having to look closely at the details. This works best on wall calendars because you can see multiple weeks/months at a time.
  5. If you're using a planner/diary, block out the time you'll be busy. There's nothing worse that trying to get from a meeting at work, to lunch with friends, when you don't give yourself any travel time. If you know your work meeting will take an hour, block out that full hour. It will give you a better idea of how much spare time you really have.
So ladies and gents, I'm going to start planning my next trip away, now. I'm thinking September...
